Chase truly lives his art! He has a high developed sensibility for architecture and design areas. He truly loves music and geography.

Arts around us : Brad Spencer sculpture in bricks
photo via Brad Spencer
North Carolina artist Brad Spencer creates stunning sculpture out of a most common material —bricks.
the first brick sculptures that we know are of the period of ancient Babylon. The Ishtar Gate for example was constructed around 575 BC by King Nebuchadnezzar II of Babylon, and it is made of fired bricks and decorated with animals made in glazed bricks. You can find Brad Spencer 's Art in
downtown Gastonia, at the new South Street pedestrian plaza ,
in Black Creek Greenway, Cary, NC ,
Downtown Greenville, SC and Winston-Salem, NC

Mrs. G. 'S project of the week- GUMBALLS -drawing/painting tips
1- you need to choose a subject for your painting where the colors and geometric shapes are easily recognizable. For example a transparent container containing colored gumballs , which are round and easy to draw.
2- Preliminary drawing is done in charcoal or light purple pencil .Not in pencil because it hard to erase off canvas and can show through paint.
3- when you are ready to paint , take a clean cotton rag ( an old T-shirt) and remove excess charcoal . What is left is the basic outline of your drawing. A faint drawing that you can begin to paint onto.
4- cover the entire canvas with a light neutral color -- light yellow-light blue ....(your foundation of the work)
4- Paint your background first ( negative space/the space around your object)
5- Paint your object (positive space) with basic colors (the colors you see the most )
6- find your light source
7- add shadows and light to your basic colors using complementary colors ( ex. if the color of the gumball is red the shadow will be green-- green and red are complementary colors)
8-add details
9- it is ok to make mistakes! don't get frustrated because your painting doesn't look like the object before you! When we paint /draw we are not trying to reproduce the object before us but rather we are trying to understand it. We are trying to communicate what we see and feel on canvas.
10-I would love to see your amazing art work. Please send them at artbygiada@gmail.com and I will post them here and on my FB page.
